Farewell EWS – Here’s what happens next

The news is official: Microsoft will retire Exchange Web Services(EWS) in Exchange Online(Microsoft365, that’s right) starting October 1st, 2026, progressively blocking EWS requests, with full retirement completed by April 2027. And as EWS leaves the room, new actors enter the conversation, and they’re fully supported by Imagicle.

But what exactly is EWS?

EWS (Exchange Web Services) is a Microsoft API that enables applications to access and manage data in Microsoft Exchange, including email, calendars, contacts, and tasks. It will be dismissed on Exchange Online, i.e. Microsoft365, starting October 1st 2026, and fully retired in April 2027.

But why is this important?

Because EWS is leveraged by Imagicle UCX Suite to power key features, as listed below:

  • M365 Calendar Integration within Agent and Attendant Console
  • Email sending capabilities across multiple Imagicle apps, including Call Analytics, Call Recording, Advanced Queueing, Auto Attendant, and UCX Suite monitoring alarms
  • Mail2Fax, available in Digital Fax for managing outgoing fax transactions via email

This means that, if you’re using any of these features, you‘ll want to play close attention to what comes next in this article.

What happens now?

Starting from the Imagicle Winter 2026 release (available from November 2025), all Imagicle applications that rely on calendar integration or email-sending capabilities will move away from EWS and switch to modern Microsoft APIs. More specifically:

Calendar integration

Imagicle Agent and Attendant Console integration with Office 365 Calendar will be handled through Microsoft Graph, a Microsoft API providing secure authentication via 0Auth 2.0 / Azure AD, full integration with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem and improved security and compliance.

Email integration

Any Imagicle solution with email-sending capabilities like Call Analytics, Call Recording, Advanced Queueing, Auto Attendant, Digital Fax integrated with Office 365 mailboxes and monitoring alarms (made available by the UCX Suite) will now use SMTP and IMAP with modern and secure X0Auth 2.0 authentication. We touched base on this topic in this blog post if you’d like to dive deeper into all the details.

Will Imagicle users be impacted?

Any Imagicle user with an active licence for the applications listed above will be affected by the shift and will be required to take action before EWS dismission by Microsoft.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes – and it needs to be done before October 1st, 2026. The exact steps depend on your deployment type, but the process is simple, fully documented, and can be performed at your own pace.

I’m a Cloud Customer. What should I do?

Cloud customers can already configure the new integration today by following our step-by-step-guidance available in our Knowledge Base. There are two articles you can refer to depending on which Imagicle service you need to update:

I’m an On-Prem Customer. What should I do?

If you’re an On-Prem customer and have an active ImagicleCare support license, there’s one additional step:

  1. Update your UCX Suite to Imagicle Winter Release 2026.
  2. Configure the new integration, depending on which Imagicle app you’re leveraging, following the same step-by-step guidance for Cloud customers. You can refer to these articles:

And that is… done?

Yep, that’s all! We just kindly ask you yo make sure to complete the update before October 1st, 2026, regardless of your deployment selection, to continue enjoying the same seamless Imagicle experience.
